Born on September 18, 1959, in Santurce, Puerto Rico, Leopoldo “Tito” Sanchez showed musical aptitude inherited from his father, a lover of Caribbean music, and the musical teaching of his brother Alexander Sanchez, a self-taught musician who discovered Tito’s skills for singing and improvisation.

From a young age, Tito was surrounded by major artistic influences that helped shape his style. He began his path as a singer and percussionist in 1976 with La Nueva Dimensión, later called Armonía 2000, a group formed together with his brothers Alexander and Albert Sanchez. Demonstrating his talent as both lead singer and backup vocalist, he was invited to join El Sabor de Nacho, the group of the late Nacho Sanabria. This group gave him the opportunity to accompany renowned artists of the time such as Pete “El Conde” Rodríguez and Raúl Marrero. During this period, he also became part of the trova and poetry group Instarte as a vocalist and percussionist.

In 1986, Tito had the honor of performing with Charlie Palmieri and became part of Conjunto Eriguá alongside Eric Figueroa, Eddie “Guagua” Rivera, Van Lester, Juancito Torres, and Giovanni Hidalgo, among others. In 1987, Tito participated as lead singer of La Corporación Latina, later as singer and instrumentalist in La Maquinaria del Merengue, expanding his musical knowledge in this genre.

Invited by his brother Albert, Tito relocated to the Washington, D.C. area, where he had the opportunity to sing with several orchestras including Latin Fire, JCJ Band (merengue), and Orquesta La Romana, among others, and to accompany great artists such as Adalberto Santiago. In April 1995, he joined the orchestra Macambila and later settled in Florida. In 1996, he had the opportunity to record the production Pasado en Presente with this group as lead vocalist on “Ojos Que No Ven,” “Negrito Corazón,” and “Naciste Para Mi,” and participated in several tours across multiple U.S. cities as well as countries such as Colombia and Mexico. While in Florida, he also accompanied artists like Roberto Torres, Jay Lozada, and Johnny Rivera, among others. In 1999, he joined Kenny Quintero and La Orquesta Brava, which produced five albums. He collaborated with Richie Ray, Nino Segarra, Edgardo Morales, Richard Bravo, and other artists who sought out his talent as a lead and backup vocalist.

In 2013, Tito collaborated as lead vocalist on the first musical production of his brother Albert Sanchez, titled From Down Below. This production had the distinction of becoming a semifinalist at the Latin Grammys. Songs such as “Chango Ta’ Beni,” “Maria Merced” (written by his other brother Alexander), and “Sabor” were warmly received in the United States and Latin America.

In 2025, Tito joins forces again with his brother Albert and lends his voice to the single Donde Caben, preserving the classic flavor of salsa with modern harmonies. The exposure of this song opened doors for him to join the record label NMJ, Animal Music Records, and record the song El Cocolo de la Salsa alongside the artists representing this label.
